January FIRST FRIDAY 2020
Joteria Undocumented: tierra, identidad, y transformación
Gabriela Hernández
Illustrations range from $15 to $400

Gabriela is a non-binary undocumented artist. They were born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and migrated to the United States at the age of 7. Coming from a community that has been directly impacted by lack of healthcare access, immigration status, and economic disparity, they have found work most meaningful when creating towards the needs of impacted communities. Their artwork aims to translate the stories and visions of community while creating a broader consciousness of how our varied and multiple identities impact cultural change. Through the years they have collaborated in different art pieces and organizing efforts with local and national organizations and events.

Tierra, Identidad, y Transformación. A trans immigrant refugee that has migrated in search of a safe home where growth and opportunity to thrive is a true reality. Her presence in this land reminds us that justice is possible but it is also not enough. She will center us in leading our movements with does most impacted in our everyday fight for freedom.

Tierra, Identidad y transformación is an art series of a visual representation of the multiple and intersectional identities of queer & trans immigrants.
This piece is of a trans immigrant ancestor who is guiding us in our most recent fights for freedom. Through the moon, wind, and spirit they are reminding us that we are not alone and that their wisdom lives through us. It is our guiding spirit and reminder that being our entire authentic selves is an act of resilience.
